Two Type of SEOs; Technical and Editorial

The world of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is changing. Don’t get me wrong SEO hasn’t changed much just some ranking factors have but it is an expanding field of internet marketing as this field is growing, I think SEOs are dividing into two distinct groups; Technical SEOs and Marketing SEOs;
- Technical SEOs – These SEOs are those who spend time on technical side of SEO trying to improve the onsite factors of SEO. Onsite SEO is not only about the meta tags and title tags or so forth, but it is a collection of daily work and improvements one needs to do in order to improve search engine visibility and increasing website user experience. User experience plays an important role in SEO these days so technical SEOs should often strive to improve that. In addition to user experience and other onsite factors, technical SEOs should be looking at the Google and Bing webmaster tools to resolve any crawler errors or warning, fix he dynamic page issues, constantly update site XML and robots.txt and be and other relevant technical issues. And lastly, the technical SEOs should keep up to date with all the new trends including new technology such as microformats, html 5, and other ne web technologies which search engines are adopting these days.
- SEO Marketers: These are the SEOs who will be more focused on content and credibility part of SEO. They will focus on marketing that content, promoting the website and increasing the website popularity by link building, networking, social media and community building as well as other internet marketing efforts. Some call SEO marketers online marketers or just marketers as all online and offline marketing efforts have direct and indirect impact on search engine rankings.
If you are interesting in getting into SEO, I believe that you examine both technical and marketing part of the SEO to see which one you like more and which one you are most interested in.
An interesting take on SEO, dividing On Page and Off Page into Technical and Marketing respectively. However, on page (technical) is certainly the more rewarding as results are seen in weeks, rather than months, particularly with an established site. I do believe that many designers overlook the fact that crawlers such as googlebot see sites very much like humans and as such, a site should be designed very much for user experience, whether that be interaction, speed, readability or layout. Fool a bot and you fool the user- or to put it another way, the lower the bounce rate on analytics, the higher you’ll rank for that given keyword set.

Now we changed the name to what we do SEOs? Go … I do not like the name of SEO marketing. Marketing is an SEO thing and another. Maybe you should use another word like “SEO social” or SEO networks, “much better. Because Google wants us to do that kind of SEO, that is, increase our presence on social networks like google + twitter and facebook and who do we have to “sell anything.”

I am not sure that I agree with this or maybe I am an exception. I see that the best SEOs understand both sides of the equation. I tend to do quite a bit of promotion and networking with the intent of link building. Not to mention, when it comes to getting backlinks, I think that there is no better way to get good link juice than getting your audience to promote for you.
Am I missing something?

I have to agree with you Matt, and I can’t see that anyone responsible for the SEO on their own site or a clients site will ever be able to only focus on one side of the equation. You have to focus on both, simultaneously, for the best result.

Backlinks are the most important facet of SEO, and nothing does it better than providing good contents and networking with others.
Which type of SEO is best for website??
interesting article.
They’re both relevant – but they require different types of thinking. Personally I find the content side of SEO a bit more difficult – I’m not that good at writing good SEO copy – but both are easy enough to outsource

Both SEO roles are vitally important but I’m leaning towards content SEO more these days.
